The Resignation Speech of Dave Lee Travis

The changes that the self–styled 'Hairy Cornflake' was referring to involved the replacement of various 'old school' presenters (including DLT himself, obviously) with others who might appeal to a younger audience. It was 1993, Radio 1 was 26 years old, and it was no secret that its audience had 'matured' along with it; the recently–appointed controller, Matthew Bannister, was keen to attract a younger demographic.

Matthew Bannister is better known today, to a certain audience, as the presenter of Radio 4's obituary programme, Last Word.
